TCG Card Shop Simulator

Announce Trailer

The Project

TCG Card Shop Simulator is a community favourite, and the most popular game in it’s genre. Players build a trading card shop with the goal of expanding globally by collecting, trading and (very importantly) selling Tetramon cards. OPNeon Games created this honest and wholesome reflection of the community, offering up the joy of the hobby alongside the darker (and sometimes smellier) elements of the business.

Big Thursday Creative and Goldpact Goblins commissioned Rumpus to produce an animatic and 2D hand drawn sections for the announce trailer; 90s anime style satire which establishes how the Tetramon are caught, along with a battle to be intersected with dynamic game capture and graphics.

The incredible sound, by Joris de Man, and tongue in cheek jokes about this community have made this trailer a real treat, TCG Card Shop Simulatorrrrrr!

How We Did It

Frame by frame feels like home for us and this 90s genre is loads of fun to work in too. Lots of holds, big body shapes, minimal lip sync along with very cool characters and dynamic backgrounds. We took the 2D card artwork for the Tetramon, using the 3D figures from the game for turnaround reference, into Toon Boom. Meet Blazoar, a fiery warthog and one of the most sought-after cards. In animation we gave them stylised animated fire, along with a very dramatic spinning exit.

The human characters in the trailer were based on the 3D playable characters from the game, we took them into the 2D anime style trading card world. We gave the female character in the stadium a giant dungbeatle called Drilceros to pit against Blazoar.

With 90s style animation, the painted backgrounds are always a joy to produce. The fantasy Tetramon world needed to show a variety of environments and landscapes to keep it feeling authentic, along with the brilliantly dramatic battle background.
